Objectives & Measurement – Key Responsibilities
Sets up equipment and welds parts using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and a Bortech welder
Operate hand tools, burners and other welding equipment
Reads blueprints to ensure accuracy of finished parts
Current AWS D1.1 and D1.6 certification
Must be able to perform and pass welding certification tests.
Uses computerized labor tracking system (LaborTrak) to log in and out of jobs for tracking purposes
Operate a forklift
Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding
Lays out, positions, aligns, fits, bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding
Repair products by gouging, dismantling, straightening, and reassembling part
Operate a stress relief oven and heat blankets
Resolves welding needs and issues by applying expertise and industry knowledge (to include usage of welding codes).
Aids Welder I and Welder II in setting up welding equipment according to the standard processes * Perform minor servicing of related welding equipment Job Knowledge / Education And Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School or an equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum three years related experience operating various types of welding equipment or a minimum of one year vocational/technical training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have thorough knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints as well as knowledge of measurement tools (e.g. tape measure, square, calipers). Ability to read and understand welding procedures and use them in practical application.
