Position Summary & Purpose: Receive, inspect, calibrate or make a variety of gauges, fixtures, jigs and dies using a variety of machine tools. Perform assembly and fitting operations
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Receive work assignment; secure drawings or print, secure part; ascertain type and sequence of work cycle, speeds, feeds and specifications
  • Select method of holding work piece, secure it to holding device using tools and aids such as shims, parallel blocks, gauges and clamps
  • Verifies workpiece position with instruments such as gauges and indicators
  • Lay out work by estimating reference points and centers and guidelines
  • Improvise own tools and fixtures as required
  • Perform close tolerance operations to make and/or inspect parts such as standard key and spline gauges, revolving drilling and fixtures, punching dies, jigs and fixtures, erection stands and trestles, various lifters and related equipment, master angles, sine bars, angle plates, sub plates and other parts of similar complexity
  • Dress, grind, sharpen or return tools to meet tool requirements. May assist with prove-out of tools.
  • Stamp identification number on tools, paint if required.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and perform all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established quality procedures
  • Act as temporary Lead-Person when needed
  • May perform secondary, non-production, tasks such as expediting, rework, and engineering liaison to help for DFMA
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or certificate of equivalency
  • 2 years prior experience with press breaks, drills, saws, and hand tools
  • Be a step 5 at your current classification
  • Ability to read and interpret CI prints
  • Ability to proficiently program and run all Tool Room equipment
  • Ability to design & manufacture all fixturing required to run parts routed through tool room
  • Must know GD&T
  • Ability to program CNC machines
  • Ability to use micrometers and gauges
  • Excellent math skills

  • Prior small machine experience is a plus
  • Technical school certificate/associate’s is a plus
