GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Excellent pay and benefits, team environment, rewarding and challenging work! This position works in our Therapeutic Equipment shop and is part of a team of professionals who evaluate, design, and fabricate assistive technology devices for individuals with disabilities.

WLRC currently services Wyoming residents in an Intermediate Care Facility and is in the process of opening a newly constructed Skilled Nursing Facility as well – the first of its kind in the nation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

Designs and fabricates customized equipment not commercially available.

Gathers and analyzes data about the client’s needs for Assistive Technology.

Participates in the collaborative decision-making process that supports systematic consideration of each client’s need for Assistive Technology devices and customized services.

Participates in client evaluations for Assistive Technology equipment.

Determines what commercially available products can be ordered and what custom parts need to be fabricated.

Ensures that objectives and goals set forth by the evaluation team are met.

Verifies all repairs are done correctly to preserve the Assistive Technology systems integrity and ensure client and staff safety.

Generates detailed shop drawings of items or devices to be fabricated and creates a list of raw materials to be incorporated into the design.

Works in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and therapists to meet Assistive Technology goals.

Reads and interprets blueprints and electrical schematics.

Uses a variety of precision machine tools, welders, and hand tools to produce adaptive equipment designs.

Designs and builds tooling to facilitate the fabrication process.

Produces prototype parts to evaluate the conceptual soundness of the design.

Keeps inventory in stock and orders parts and supplies as needed. Determines the most cost-effective approach for parts or systems to be ordered.

Attends training and workshops to improve assistive technology, seating, and positioning management expertise.

Other duties, as assigned. Assists other team members and departments to accomplish their goals and duties cooperatively.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with certification in Assistive Technology.

KNOWLEDGE:

Must possess competency in the various uses of shop equipment and hand tools (welding, woodworking, foam properties, vinyl properties, thermoplastics, sewing, and vacuum forming).

Must possess competency in using a wide variety of precision machine tools (lathe, vertical spindle milling machine) and in the fabrication of custom tooling.

Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other departments and disciplines to accomplish goals and objectives.

Ability to use a client-driven and outcome-based approach to address the unique needs of the individuals served.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;

Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

Creative problem-solving skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Fabrication) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Fabricator

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Agency may require the ability to obtain a CDL license and to become a certified welder

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Fabrication) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Fabricator

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Agency may require the ability to obtain a CDL license and to become a certified welder

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Job duties require the ability to twist, bend, kneel, carry, lift, push and pull.

Safely move and lift heavy items.

Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position, and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.

Exposure to hazardous conditions (examples would be mechanical, cuts, burns, loud noises, chemicals. bio-hazards, and the elements).

NOTES:

FLSA: Non-exempt

Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID-19.

A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
