A Structural Steel Fabricator prepares, fabricates, and welds various metal constructions, components, and structures. Steel Fabricators work from patterns and blueprints, using a variety of tools and machines to make metal parts or assemble components. They may work in manufacturing assembly, or in construction and building.
General Purpose of the Position:
The Fabricator must read and understand engineering blueprints and plans to know exactly what is required of any project. They must follow detailed assembly instructions, processes, and procedures in all the work they do. Must be able to operate cutting saws to cut various metals, and weld and grind fabricated structures to meet structural requirements. perform detailed quality checks to ensure that it meets all standards and requirements. They must document work results and keep records of labor and materials used.
Primary Responsibilities:
Study and interpret assembly instructions
Fabricate frameworks or shells for machinery, ovens, tanks, and stacks, and metal parts for buildings and bridges
Listen to directions from supervisors.
Fabricate and assemble structural metal products.
Determine if all parts are present.
Read and interpret blueprints and sketches and parts list
Assemble tools and materials and position parts and subassemblies.
Interpret measurements.
Hammer, grind, and chip workpieces.
Assemble components.
Ensure all parts are fitted and tacked up correctly.
Alter dimensions to fit specifications.
Resolve assembly and production issues.
Complete preventive maintenance.
Troubleshoot malfunctions and perform repairs as needed.
Ensure the working environment is clean and safe.
Operate fabricating machines such as rolls, shears, and flame cutters.
Report errors in the product line.
Check stock to ensure inventory is replenished.
Participate in product development
Qualifications:
· Certifications in the welding processes used in the shop or field as applicable.At least one year of relevant work experience or equivalent education experience
$30 – $35 an hour
