Job Description

SUMMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the technical, supervision, and functional leadership, necessary to achieve the production plan schedule, output, ensuring compliance with established company policies, procedures, processes, strategies, and programs. Supervise all Production (Fabrication, Welding, Finishing, and Assembly) operations, direct labor personnel and processes. Works in concert with all company functional departments to meet production throughput requirements while maintaining departmental personnel core competencies, systems, procedures and controls to ensure that materials are processed efficiently, that inventory balances are accurately maintained, and that products of the highest quality are produced in accordance with accepted quality system guidelines. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, by anticipating probable outcomes, and influencing the decision-making processes for predictable results.

SCOPE OF JOB

Directs the development and implementation of activities to meet production goals and quality. Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. Creates work schedules and evaluates manpower requirements for assigned area. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation within the department.

May perform production duties such as setting up and operating a variety of production machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Reading and interpreting blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Adjusting machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. May load and unload materials using a forklift.

Has knowledge of welding techniques and interpretation of engineering drawing specifications. May perform weld activities using MIG welding equipment to manufacture parts and assemblies for nut harvesting equipment while meeting a defined production schedule. Laying out, fitting, and fabricating metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames. Performs duties with an attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to act as an educator for new team members, when employees are new to a team, when processes, policies or conditions change and when discussing goals and objectives and performance expectations with your direct reports

Conducts meetings with employees to communicate changes to production and work schedules, distribute policies and other documents, and performs monthly safety training

Understands the current level of skill and knowledge that their employees possess and can utilize their strengths in the performance of their work. Plans for and provides cross-training and development opportunities

Ability to act as a coach and mentor when explaining, encouraging, planning, correcting, or just checking in with employees

Schedules regular weekly check-ins with each of their direct reports seeking feedback on their performance and their team’s performance and suggestions for team and departmental improvement

Provides formal and informal performance feedback to their direct reports

Acts as counselor by providing support and encouragement when an employee’s personal life impacts their work

Ability to provide clear and direct feedback about performance, recommending alternatives, desired results and communicating consequences of continued poor performance

Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and assembly sequence to meet production goals in a timely and safe manner according to work order scheduling and customer delivery requirements.

Review work throughout the work process to ensure that it has been performed properly

Responsible for establishing and maintaining a work environment promoting positive, open communications, that encourages employee ideas and contributions while meeting all labor relations requirements for being non-discriminatory and non-hostile to all employees

Participate in the development of continuous improvement programs

Supports the organization’s policies, procedures, and practices

Ability to work collaboratively with others to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments

Helps maintain an environment that is clean, organized, and neat

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Analyzes, lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly according to specifications, using required measurement tools to ensure accuracy

Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding

Operate Oxy/Acetylene cutting torch

Accurately adjust welder voltage and wire speed for various material thicknesses

Remove rough spots from work piece using portable grinder or hand file

Ability to read and accurately interpret engineering drawings

Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies

Accurately examines weld quality looking for defects and conformance to quality standards and specifications

Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade

Ability to operate crane

Ability to operate a forklift

Operate equipment safely, wear required personal protective equipment and use safe work habits

Ability to effectively manage time with high degree of self-motivation to complete assigned tasks on time

Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others in a team environment

Required to work Overtime in excess of 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, and Saturdays per the factory production schedule

IMPACT

This position impacts the organization by ensuring that activities and personnel within the department can perform and produce to the master production schedule. Ensures activities are standardized in their execution to ensure quality. This role impacts the department by ensuring that clear goals and objectives are communicated for their team. A Supervisor educates their team and develops their technical and product knowledge to meet performance standards. Maintains and reports on KPI’s for department.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works relatively independently with guidance and supervision from superior manager. Assignments given in the form of goals/objectives. Work reviewed by manager for soundness of judgment, overall completeness and accuracy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Cognitive skills to move from one task to another, attend to numerical detail, manage time appropriately, reason, process and interpret information. Cognitive skills for information processing, and interpretation, numerical and verbal intelligence. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Visual acuity to inspect product, interpret written data, maintain accurate records, and respond to direction, plant floor traffic and emergency warnings. Speaking and hearing skills in order to converse verbally, by telephone and in person.

Use of hands for simple and firm grasping, repetitive motion, fine and gross manipulation to reach and handle equipment. Ability to stand for extended periods of time during the shift. Ability to walk about the manufacturing area and bend. Ability to balance, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Ability to lift using appropriate biomechanical techniques during an eight to ten-hour day. Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds, level lift up to 13 pounds and lift overhead up to 10 pounds. Must be able to frequently push or pull up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job duties are performed in a production and/or office environment utilizing standard equipment, such as a computer, photocopier, telephone, hand tools, fabrication and test equipment. Noise level is usually moderate to loud, based on specific activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and/or heavy fabrication equipment and can be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and/or hazardous chemicals. When required to be in the factory conditions can be seasonally hot or cold and dusty.

Other assignments as communicated by superior manager

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Operations preferred

Requires minimum of 3-5 years Supervisory experience

Experience as a fabricator, assembler, technician, or mechanic in a manufacturing environment, required

Strong mechanical aptitude, required

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, required

Strong organizational skills, required

Strong leadership skills which result in being a great coach, mentor, and developer of people

Awareness of time constraints, urgency, and on-time performance of all duties, required

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat, preferred

OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS

Industry experience, preferred

Electrical and Hydraulic system experience, preferred

ERP/MRP system experience – preferably Epicor, preferred
