Our facility in Salem, Massachusetts has key positions in Sales, Product Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other disciplines. The Salem site has 12 distinct product lines serving some of the world’s most recognizable brands in both the commercial and defense markets. Our product portfolio includes Xenon flashlamps, Xenon flashlamp systems, high-energy switching devices, high-voltage power supplies and rubidium atomic frequency standards.

We are presently seeking a Manufacturing/Process Engineer who is responsible for providing manufacturing engineering support to production lines involving complex electro-mechanical assembly that includes assembling PCBAs into various mechanical parts such as castings and sheet metal. The goals are to meet commitments to customers, maintain a high level of quality, and achieve productivity improvement goals. These activities focus on improving processes through continuous improvement projects and initiatives in a low volume, high mix environment requiring strong problem-solving skills.

Main responsibilities:

  • Investigates process and manufacturing problems during fabrication, test, and assembly operations, and implements corrective actions;
  • Improves and streamlines processes by improving yields, eliminating waste, and implementing cost saving ideas;
  • Conducts failure analyses as required, performs root cause analysis, and initiates appropriate corrective action and process controls to prevent recurrence of failures;
  • Creates and modifies work instructions as necessary to document critical to quality process characteristics and establish appropriate process controls. Trains production operators as required;
  • Designs a variety of tools, jigs and fixtures that will assist in increasing production efficiency;
  • Interacts with Design Engineering to ensure effective transitions to manufacturing of new products;
  • Handles multiple projects. Performs any and all required coordination with other operations to ensure that schedules are met, quality is maintained, and manufacturing costs are minimized;
  • Ensures a safe work environment by monitoring near misses and accident investigations to prevent recurrence;
  • Performs other related duties of comparable complexity as directed.


  • Requires a B.S. degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Electro-Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment;
  • Demonstrated Lean Manufacturing training and experience in implementing practices;
  • Proven experience in solving manufacturing problems utilizing Six Sigma methodologies;
  • Experience taking a “hands-on” approach to engineering;
  • Working knowledge of process tracking metrics is required;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong judgment and decision making skills;
  • Having a Green or Black Belt certification in Six Sigma methodologies is a plus;
  • Experience with preventive maintenance is a plus.
