Position Overview
The Level 3 Fabricator is an expert in custom fabrication, ready to help fellow team members grow. Others look to you for guidance, and you must combine your fabrication expertise with leadership skills. You will share and demonstrate our mission and values through workmanship and interactions with internal and external audiences.
As a Fabricator, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, fabricating metal components or structures, and performing quality checks on finished products. You may also be required to set up fabricating machines and design custom templates. Cut, bend, weld and finish custom parts/products that meet customer specifications. You must be able to organize your own project workflow as well as supervise the projects of all lower level welders.
Role and Responsibilities
Completing and demonstrating all skills and competencies of a Level 2 Fabricator
Fabricating complex projects independently, at the highest level and quality, with no supervision
Researching, testing and implementing new fabrication techniques, tools and equipment to improve operations
Planning, coordinating and carrying out complex installations successfully
Using shop drawings/instructions and consulting with the project engineer & manager
Setting the tone for quality and professionalism in the shop
Showing a willingness and desire to mentor Level 1 Fabricators
Being cross trained in all areas of the shop and installation processes
Demonstrating expertise and leading the team in all internal and OSHA safety regulations, training and procedures
Contributing to continuous improvement processes, procedures and methods
Operating in the shop and field with little or no supervision
Anticipating and solving problems prior to fabrication and installation
Reviewing blueprints, drawings, and other specification papers before starting work on a fabrication process and during the steps to ensure accurate completion
Maneuvering fabrication machines, such as grinders, drill presses, brakes, rolls, shears, and flame cutters to cut, bend, grind and adjust materials
Creating and following templates and jigs for common work tasks when conducting repetitive motions for the fabrication process to ensure a set standard of work quality
Using proper handling and fabrication techniques for specialty alloys (stainless, aluminum)
Following prints and work orders to cut, fabricate, and assemble parts in accordance with production guidelines
Accurately measuring, calculating, and recording material usage and time tracking by project
Adhering to quality standards while accurately measuring and documenting results
Wearing PPE, protective clothing and operate equipment in accordance with safety guidelines
Demonstrating expertise with all fabrication processes from cutting to finishing with minimal errors
Independently operating MIG and TIG welders to produce consistent high quality welds on mild steel in multiple positions
Working with specialty alloys such as stainless, aluminum, and at times, brass
Fabricating with all shapes and sizes of materials from thin sheet metal to plate, rod, bar, beam, channel, etc.
Examining specifications of the customer’s order using drawings, work orders, or blueprints to determine the characteristics of the finished item, materials to be used, and machine setup requirements
Examining work piece visually, by touch, using tape rule, calipers, or gauges to ensure product meets desired standards
Performing quality control on products produced by lower level fabricators
Maintaining condition of work area (i.e., free of trash, product in correct location, etc.) performs other duties as assigned
Reliably meeting or exceeding estimated production times
Education/ Experience Requirements
High school diploma or a GED equivalent
At least seven years of experience in fabrication
Skills
Ability to read, interprets, and follows safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to comprehend blueprints, drawings, schematics, technical procedures, and other related material
Ability to follow written and verbal directions to perform to the quality standards
Ability to apply basic mathematical skills to solve technical problems
Utilize knowledge of all metallic and non-metallic materials
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
Ability to lift or move up to 35-50 pounds; over 50 pounds with assistance
Must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions
$20 – $26 an hour
