Job Description

Responsible for providing shop supervision and leadership. Acts as main point of contact on status of shop jobs. Works to maintain safety, quality, and productivity. Serves as teacher and mentor to shop personnel. Responsible for understanding the shop order scope of work, budgeted hours, and scheduling deadlines.

Duties Include:

Responsible for developing and managing a team that performs fabrication, welding, assembly for custom steel fabrication.

Plan, organize, and control production in the fabrication department to ensure that materials are produced efficiently, on time, within budget, and to standard.

• Provides leadership regarding safety. Fosters a Safety Culture within the shop. • Provides leadership regarding quality. Eliminates reworks, rejected or sloppy work.

Provides craft knowledge and experience to welders and laborers. Acts as teacher and mentor. Passes along expertise shop fabrication means and methods.

Ensures that all welders and laborers have a thorough understanding of their individual roles and are cross-trained as needed in order to meet or exceed internal and external customer expectations.

Performs welding tasks as needed to help meet production goals or fill-in for shortages.

Evaluates shop employees and identifies those who are candidates for promotion. Provides guidance and training to assist in their development. Communicates the employee evaluation information to Operations Manager and HR.

Responsible for the care and maintenance of all tooling and equipment.

Utilizes experience and skills to identify opportunities for improvement of company practices and resources.

Represents the Company in a professional, positive light to customers and employees.

Provides a positive contribution to pre-fabrication planning effort.

Communicates well with the project team.

Knows and understands the estimated manhours and scope on projects prior to job start. Works with Project Manager in tracking progress weekly.

Works with Operations Manager and HR to assure that employees assigned to upcoming or ongoing work have received the necessary training and certifications. This may include safety training, welder testing, and quality training.

Completes all necessary paperwork, e.g., daily time sheets, safety and quality audits, customer-required paperwork, equipment inspections, etc.

Advises Project Management of potential problems, work interferences, and schedule difficulties; assists in resolving such problems, as required.

Employee Must:

Be at least 18-years old.

Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Be eligible to work in the United States.

Be willing to authorize a background check.

• Have no criminal convictions for dishonesty, sexual misconduct, violence, or acts of terrorism. • Be willing to authorize motor vehicle driving record checks.

Have valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation.

Be willing to submit to pre-hire, random, and post-incident drug and alcohol testing.

Have good communication skills.

Have good attendance and show up to work on time every day.

Have strong basic math and measuring skills.

Be able to pass welding tests for stick and flux core.

Have an eye for quality and strong attention to detail.

Be self-motivated and eager to learn and improve.
